There are a few countries in the world where no special storage is required as the climate does not change much, and so the citizens there can wear the same clothing all year round. However, in most countries, citizens experience four seasons, spring, summer, autumn, and winter. For the latter, that is where we have to think of storage for boys’ clothes. The spring/summer clothing is not practical to even think about for autumn/winter wear and so in order not to have them spoiled, misshapen, or go moldy we have to choose the correct method of storage for out-of-season clothing as we do not want to leave them hanging in the closets or wardrobe for one or sometimes up to two seasons. Storing clothes properly takes a little preparation.
Wash & Dry Properly
Before putting boys’ clothing in storage make sure they are washed and dried properly. Also if clothing needs to be dry clean be sure to get that done before. Be reminded that deodorant and cologne stain clothes over time, and also that those creepie crawlers love dust and dirt. Before storing, check for any damage and do minor repairs like stitching up a small hole or sewing on a missing button.
Also, sort clothing by seasons, that is, spring/summer and autumn/winter so that when the time comes for switching, it can be done easily. When storing autumn/winter clothing such as coats and jackets, do not forget the accessories like hats, scarves, gloves, or mittens. These can be stored safely along with the clothing.
Storage Containers
Do not use vacuum storage bags for storage that will last over a month. Even though it can save a lot of space, especially for bulky winter clothing, keeping items made of natural fibers like wool or silk in a plastic bag can damage them and cause them to lose their shape over time. Select plastic storage boxes with airtight lids so that the clothes will remain dry and free from mold and mildew.
You do not need a lot of fancy organizers or labels. Just keep it simple. The idea is to keep the boys’ clothes sorted into a few places so that they are easy to find and get to.
Try to purchase containers that are stackable. While you are at it get a few that can be stored under the bed or in a corner of the closet or wardrobe. These will use less space for storage
No Need For Iron
Skip the iron and go ahead and fold and pack with care. Those clothes are going to need ironing when they are retrieved, so who likes to iron the same piece of clothing twice before it is worn? Place the heavier pieces of clothing at the bottom of the box and the lighter pieces on the top. Do not overstuff the storage box, this may cause clothes to lose their shape and will make them hard to iron when they are retrieved. You may also consider rolling some items like t-shirts. In that way, a lot more can fit into the same space.
Where & How
It is recommended that where clothes are stored the temperature should not be warmer than 23 degrees Celcius with a relative humidity of 55 degrees Celsius. However, if you have somewhere that is cool, clean, dry, and dark, that should be good enough. Also if you have a loft, that could be an ideal place. If space is an issue in the house you might consider a storage company for a few months. Make sure boxes are labeled carefully, for example, sweaters, shorts, etc.
Tips
(1) Stick with the basics and make this process easy on yourself. Declutter, sort, and store.
(2) Decide how many storage boxes are needed and label them based on the category, eg outgrown, fit right now, charity, smaller siblings, etc. You can also get these boxes in different sizes based on your needs, for example, small, medium, large, x-large, or under-the-bed.
(3) Declutter and remove what is not going to be worn again, where there is not a smaller sibling. If an item of clothing has not been worn for two seasons or more, even though it can fit right now, chances are they are not liked and so will end up going in the outgrown box. Or they can be put in the hand-me-down box, which is for cousins or close friends, or in the charity box which may be taken to your local church or to an organization that collects used clothes and other items for distribution.
(4) Remember that shoes also need to be stored, sneakers, flip-flops everyday wear shoes and boots will be stored differently from winter boots and waterproof boots. Just as we did for the clothing, we will also have to sort the footwear.
(5) For clothing and shoes that need to be replaced, the off-season is a great time to purchase these, because they are not in great demand, and the prices will be less expensive than when they are in season.
(6) Always keep a storage system in place. Boys will always be outgrowing their clothes. The good thing is, they are not all grown out at the same time, so we can store them while replacing them whatever the season.

Get the safest, most sturdy, and more economical storage containers. Fold or roll them as neatly as possible so that they are not very hard to iron when they are retrieved. swapping over clothes from one season to the next can now be done in minutes when they are sorted and properly stored.
